Joseph was born in 1872/1873. He married Mary Elizabeth Murphy on 12/24/1899 in Henderson, Kentucky. They appear on the 1900 Caseyville, Kentucky census. His birth information is Aug./1873/New York. His parent's names are not known. Joseph and Mary had two daughters, Ethna Pearl (07/29/1903 - 09/01/1989) - married name Nicholson and Wanda Mae (11/29/1904 - 02/18/1994) - married name Webb. They possibly had a son named Melvin who died young. On October 18, 1905 while working at Reynold's Coal Mine near Boonville, Indiana his head was caught between a moving coal cage and a piece of timber breaking his neck. The coroner report reads, "The said deceased being a male of the age of 33 years, 5 ft. 9 in. in height, dark hair, brown eyes, dark complexion and had on his person at the time of death nothing of value and was dressed in a suit of miners clothes." He belonged to Local Union 1244 which paid for his burial plot. Mary married Elmer Cissna on 08/26/1908. She, Elmer and their son Charles are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, Indiana.
