On Friday, February 12, 2021, Joseph (Joe) F. Grillo,Jr. passed away at the age of 91. Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 18, 1930 to Joseph and Madeline Grillo, he joined his brother Dominick and sister Minnie. Here in Brooklyn, he married his first wife Josephine and they raised their two sons, Joseph and Steven.
Joe worked in Manhattan, NY until his retirement at which time he relocated to The Villages in Florida. Here he met Helen Pete and they married in 1999.
Joe was a proud patriot and Army veteran. He served as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War. He loved sports and had a passion for golf. He could often be found on one of the Village golf courses by day and out dancing at various Village dance spots in the evening with his wife, Helen. Family and friends will surely miss his gentlemanly manner and kind, compassionate spirit.
Joe is preceded in death by his brother, sister and wives Josephine (1980) and Helen (2020). His eldest son, Joseph was killed during the 9/11/2001 terrorist attack on the city of NY.
He is survived by his youngest son Steven, his wife Carmen and their son, Steven of Summerfield, FL; daughter-in-law Mary Joe Grillo and grandsons Mathew Grillo and Timothy Grillo of Staten Island, NY.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Timothy's Catholic Church at 8:30am on Thursday, March 11, 2021. A Military Honors Ceremony will follow at 12:30 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
