Joseph Martin Flynn, age 86, formerly of Ann Arbor. Born in Brooklyn, NY, to Joseph F and Mabel Flynn. At age 12, he and his family moved to MI where Joe graduated from Detroit Redford High School. He then went onto receive his Engineering degree from GMI in Flint.
After graduation, Joe took a research position with Boeing in Seattle, WA. While at Boeing, he developed the outer tiles for the Minuteman missile. Joe met his wife, Pat (Mary Patricia Hoban) while employed at Fisher Body and they married June 27th, 1959, in Detroit at St. Martin's Catholic Church.
They moved back to MI in 1961 settling in Ann Arbor where Joe began his career in thermo plastic sales. After retiring in 1993, Joe and Pat moved to Leelanau County for the next 24 years, relocating to FL in 2017.
Joe excelled at golfing, liked playing hockey, fly fishing, bow hunting and family vacations. When they were empty nesters, he and Pat continued traveling. In retirement, he volunteered as a driver for the Senior Citizens of Leelanau County.
Joe is survived by his wife of 62 yrs, 5 of their 6 children, Karen David (Matt), Michael Flynn (Carol Chin), Patricia Duimstra (John), Matthew Flynn (Beth) and Paul Flynn (Catherine) and 11 grandchildren. Son, Mark F. Flynn, his parents and both sisters preceded him in death.
Memorial service at St Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau on Sat, June 18th at 11am.
