Joseph Patrick Chincheck Sr.
August 13, 1937– July 19, 2022
On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the age of 84, Joseph P. Chincheck died peacefully in his sleep under the compassionate care of the nurses and staff at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Boley Chincheck, and his baby daughter, Nadine Marie. Joe is survived by Barbara, his wife of 63 years; his children Lynn (Fabio), Jay (Julie), and Leigh Anne (Jim); and his sister Kathy. His grandchildren: Connor, Ryan, Brandon, Jayme, Eryn, James, Oscar, Henry, Bridget, and great-grandsons Jordan and Bodhi, will all miss him dearly.
Born in Windsor Heights, West Virginia, Joseph spent his later childhood and teenage years in Washington DC where he was a member of the first graduating class of Archbishop Carroll High School in 1955. After graduation, he returned to his beloved West Virginia to continue his education as a part of Wheeling College’s inaugural class. His membership in the Class of 1959 formed the foundation of many of his closest lifelong friendships. It was a week after graduation that he married his “sweetness” Barbara, and they began their family together.
Joseph was employed by Wheeling Machine / Joy Manufacturing in the sales and marketing division for the majority of his career. He later worked as a sales consultant to various companies before owning and operating a Hallmark store.
Joe’s greatest contributions in life were as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was happiest when surrounded by family, working the grill, enjoying a cigar, and regaling his grandchildren with stories about his childhood. The wealth of friendships he relished throughout his life are a testament to his integrity, loyalty, and the value he placed on being there for others. He and Barb never stopped their busy social life, always eager to host a party, attend a dance, or go out to dinner with friends. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of fishing with him, sharing breakfast with him, or working out with him at the Wellness Center. His was a life well spent surrounded by people who loved him.
Friends will be received Friday, July 22, 2022, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-232-2732) where service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11 am with Father Carlos Melocoton, Jr. officiating.
