Joseph Charles Bound, Jr. ("Joe" / "Aussie Joe"), 78 of Harpers Ferry, WV went to be with our Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ on January 25, 2022.
Joe was born in Pottsville, PA on July 11, 1943. Son of the late Joseph Bound, Sr. and Eleanor Naomi (Harner) Bound. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Carol Ann Bound, and his brother, Vincent Bound.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rita Marie (Colna) Bound, of Harper's Ferry, WV; his daughter, Christa Marie Engel, (& husband, Michael), of Gaithersburg, MD; his son David Joseph Bound, (& wife Julie Rene), of Ranson, WV. Joe has 3 grandsons, Kaziah Matthew White of Long Lake, NY, Julian Joseph & Jaden David Bound, and his brother, William Bound, (& wife, Karen Mittleman), of Marshfield, VT
He was a good hardworking man who left Pottsville for the New Jersey Boardwalk at age 14. He was a short order cook during the summers there.
After graduating high school in 1961, he joined the United States D.C. Army National Guard Reserve and was stationed at the D.C. Armory, serving during the riots in the 60's.
He worked for a time at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., and then was a government contractor at Vitro Research Laboratories in Silver Spring, MD.
He received many awards for his years in service during his time there prior to his retirement.
He was an A.Y.S.O. soccer coach during the 80's. He (being an Eagle Scout) was a Cub Scout leader for the mountain for many years. He was a drummer and loved classic rock and country.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV, V.F.W. Post# 3522, the American Legion and Loyal Order of the Moose 948.
Family will receive friends at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Ranson, WV on Sunday Jan. 30, 2022 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. James the Greater Catholic Church on Monday January 31, 2022 at 1pm with Father Grassi and Deacon Dave officiating.
