Joseph (Joe) Blaize, 96, Burlington WA passed away peacefully on the evening of December 7, 2020. He is survived by his two sisters, Phyllis (Blaize) Becker and Rita (Blaize) Tuttle, daughters Lynda (Blaize) Kenny, Susan Blaize-Ackerman, Dyan Blaize, and his son Andrew Blaize. He has nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Joe was preceded in his passing by his wife Barbara (December 2018) and by his brother Richard (Dick) Blaize in 2011.
Joe was born in Bay City, Michigan in 1924, moved to Flint Michigan as a child and spent many years there. After serving in the Navy and attending college he worked as an Industrial Arts teacher for the Flint Public Schools, then as an administrator with the Mott Foundation. Joe was a skilled jewelry artist and taught the craft for many years in the Mott adult system. He also was wood turning artist, turning blocks of wood into beautiful bowls which are prized by family members and friends.
After retiring from education, both he and Barbara moved to the idyllic town of Port Townsend, WA on Puget Sound , where he enjoyed golfing, hiking, traveling, and captaining his boat, Le Petite Tout. Twenty years later in 2006, Joe and Barb moved to Burlington, WA and spent their remaining years. Barbara preceded Joe in death two years before, in 2018.
Joe loved his family. His favorite times were getting together with extended family and talking, laughing and playing cards. He was instrumental in creating a family-wide love of golf, encouraging all to learn and walk the course with him. The Blaize family golfing tradition "The Canadian Open" was a yearly event that brought family together from two countries to shoot a few rounds together.
Joe was bigger than life and loved his large, extended family. Joe made a difference and will be missed.
Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA.
