Joseph "Jabo" Barnett age 67, passed away on Wednesday June 30th, 2021. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Those who knew him, remember a strong man, a man who would fight at the drop of a hat, but was caring, compassionate, and when he loved it was with his whole heart. He'd never lied to you - if you could not take the truth, it was your problem. He was tough as nails but had a very tender heart. He was the gentlest and yet the most exasperatingly stubborn man. Jabo was one of the best ball players around, always playing hard, and playing often. It wasn't unusual for him to be on 2-3 teams at a time. He loved kids and enjoyed coaching them in baseball and football. In his early years, he partied hard but always got up and went to work in the morning. He was a man with strong work ethics and a desire to be the best at whatever he did. He retired from the phone company after 30 years of service. He was a devoted father to two of the most awesome kids who have grown into awesome adults. And he was "PawPaw" to three beautiful grandkids. Jabo touched a lot of lives from Alabama to Georgia, from Newnan to Fairburn. A louder War Eagle! cry cannot be made.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 33 years Katherine Quigley Barnett; brothers Steve (Regina) Barnett of Newnan, GA and Hal Barnett of Birmingham, AL; half-sister Joanna Scarborough; Daughter Amanda Joy Martin; son Joseph Clay (Mallory) Barnett; granddaughters Ramona Joy and Patricia Joy; and grandson Joseph Banks.
A graveside Celebration of Life will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Friday July 9th, 2021 at 11:00 am. Please come attired "comfortably appropriate". Jabo wasn't a "suit" guy; on his terms - this will not be a stuffy event.
