Joseph Russell Barnes, 71, of Greenfield, IN passed away December 10, 2020. He was born in Indianapolis, IN, a son of the late Corina (Obermeyer) and Dempsey R. Barnes. Survivors include his wife, Lana Dee (McCarty) Barnes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Daniel Barnes, Alvin Barnes; sister, Mary Hon.
Joseph graduated from J.F. Kennedy Memorial High School. He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, from May 1969 to January 1972 when he was Honorably Discharged. He worked on helicopter maintenance., earning the rank of SP5.
Joseph was retired from Alexander Screw Products.
He loved animals, working in the garden, fishing, and helping people in need. Joseph also loved collecting guns and target shooting. He was an avid Colts fan. Most of all he loved spending precious time with the love of his life, Lana Dee. Lana says, "I am as close as your next breath."

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Shangrila Chapel, 1444 W US Hwy 52, Fountaintown, IN 46130. Services will be Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Officiating will be Pastor William Johnson.
Masks must be worn at both the visitation and service. Due to Covid 19 mandate limiting 25 persons per gathering, we respectfully ask to keep your visit brief so that we may rotate 25 guests at a time. This will ensure all those who wish to pay their respects to the family may do so.
