Dunnellon- Jose Alex Ramirez, 76, of Ocala, Florida, passed away at his home on February 2, 2020. A Funeral Service will be held at Riverland Baptist Church in Dunnellon, Florida, on Saturday, February 8th. The family will receive friends and family at the Riverland Baptist Church for a visitation from 10am, with the funeral service to be held at 11am,with Pastor Rex Carringer officiating. A Military Burial will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on Monday, February 10th at 11am.
Jose was born to Jose and Trinidad(Ortiz)Ramirez on October 29, 1943, in Capac, Michigan. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967. He received the Vietnam combat medal, combat infantry badge, and two purple hearts. Jose served as the County Director of Veterans Affairs for twenty years in Lapeer, Michigan. In 2005, he married Kathryn Woodward, retired, and moved to Ocala, Florida, where he was an active member of the Riverland Baptist Church for 13 years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two sons Todd and Anthony Ramirez; three stepsons, John(Molly)Woodward, Orrin(Laurie)Woodward, and Patrick(Elizabeth)Woodward; two step-daughters, Lisa(Tomias)Malone and Vicki(Chris)Olds; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are six brothers and six sisters, Jim(Mary)Ramirez, Al(Gloria)Ramirez, Dan(Carolyn)Ramirez, Aden(Connie)Ramirez, Zeke Ramirez, Chuck(Diane)Ramirez, Virginia, Joyce, Connie, Linda, and Esther. He was preceded in death by his brothers Sam Ramirez and Big Daniel Ramirez; his sisters, Lupe, Eva, and Delores; and his sisters in law, Angie and Pat.
