Jose D. Diaz "Pop Jose" passed away peacefully on November 27, 2020 at the age of 96 with his loving family by his side. He is now reunited with our Heavenly Father and his son Jose Diaz, his daughters Sylvia D. Garcia and Gloria D. Betts.
Jose was born on April 11, 1924 in Jalisco, Mexico, to Rafael and Juana Diaz. He married the love of his life, Ana, on January 12, 1944. He adored Ana and they shared 76 years of a loving marriage. If ever there was a true love story, it was theirs. He is survived by his loving wife, Ana E. Diaz, his children Lupe (Susie) Diaz, Jess (Maria) Diaz, Marty (Steve) Jensen, Ralph Diaz and sons-in-law David Garcia and Bruce Betts. His 16 grandchildren: Denise (Octavio) Silveyra, Jos Diaz, Jess Diaz, Angel (Lauren) Diaz, Roberto (Marla) Diaz, Diane Lara, Erica (Mike) Mallett, Ralph Diaz, JoJo Diaz, Jaci (Gabriel) Rubio, Danielle Diaz, Ana Diaz, Gabriel (Melissa) Aguilar, Stephanie (Bryan) Lozon, Christopher Betts and Samantha Betts and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pop Jose had a passion for cooking which led him to a career as a chef. He worked for the Wagon Wheel Restaurant for 25 years and retired from The Lobster Trap after 10 years. We will cherish all the recipes he left for us.
He enjoyed his annual trips to Lake Tahoe with Lupe & Susie and his Tuesday trips to Chumash Casino with Jess. His favorite time of the year was traveling to Las Vegas with his daughters and granddaughters to celebrate Mama Nita's birthday. This was a tradition for over 25 years. All these trips have one thing in common, being with his family and his "love" for slot machines! We will miss all his stories he loved sharing with us on these trips.
Pop Jose started each day by walking to early mass. As a devout Catholic he made a promise to God to live each day with a grateful heart. Pop Jose was a great man, he was generous, lived with integrity, always doing the right thing and helping so many people along the way. We were all so blessed to have him in our lives.
We would like to thank all of our parent's neighbors for their unwavering support these past few years.
A private family mass will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Santa Clara Cemetery.
