Jon Arthur Worden passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on October 19, 2021. He was 53.
Jon was born in Ft. Lauderdale, June 25, 1968, to Donald & Greta Worden. From an early age, he was passionate about sports. He played baseball, golf, tennis and was a competitive swimmer. He was five when the Miami Dolphins won two super bowls and went undefeated. Jon became a lifelong fan.
In seventh grade, his family moved to Chapel Hill, NC, where he attended Phillips Junior High and Chapel Hill High School. He was a pitcher for both school's baseball teams and helped lead the high school to the state championship game.
Jon attended North Carolina State University for one year before joining his two brothers to form Worden Brothers, Inc., a company that creates award-winning stock charting and trading software. Jon helped sponsor, coach and play for the company's softball team, The Traders. They won three city championships in Chapel Hill. The company continued The Traders tradition, sponsoring and coaching many kid's baseball teams.
Jon loved all sports--NFL, college basketball, MLB, NHL, soccer, school sports--everything. His favorite teams were the Dolphins, Tarheels, Carolina Hurricanes. Plus, the U.S. and Danish soccer teams.
Shortly after joining Worden Brothers, Jon met his wife Cynthia Dickerson (Cindy) at the company. They married in Chapel Hill and were subsequently blessed with two sons, Zachary and Jacob.
His favorite things in life were coaching and watching his kids' sporting events and cooking. He loved most being surrounded by his family, friends and golden retrievers. He was a loving husband, father and uncle. His energy literally filled any room into which he walked. He will be missed tremendously.
Jon is survived by his wife, Cindy Worden; sons, Zachary Worden and Jacob Worden all of Wilmington; mother, Greta Worden of Ft. Lauderdale; brother, Peter Worden of Ft. Lauderdale; brother, Christopher (Wendy) Worden of Wilmington; niece, Greta Worden and nephew, Michael Worden both of Wilmington; nephews, Matthew Worden, Nicholas Worden and Joseph Worden of Ft.
