Jon D. Newlin, age 71 of Indianapolis, IN; formerly of Hutsonville, IL, passed away suddenly at his home Friday evening, October 7, 2022, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Evansville, IN to Stephen E. Newlin and Marjorie (Layton) Newlin. Jon graduated Coronado High School in Scottsdale, AZ in 1969. He married Betsy Noblitt in 1972 and they were married for 17 years, having three children together. Jon drove semi-trucks almost his entire life as his primary occupation and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 177 in Indianapolis, IN. He retired in 2015, sold his house and started living mobile. He visited Florida, California, Arizona and Texas during his retirement years. He also owned more than one Honda Goldwing during his lifetime and enjoyed plenty of time on two wheels. Jon was an avid homeopath and loved gardening. He truly enjoyed going grocery shopping; it was one of his favorite activities and he was always like a kid in a candy store in any produce department. His goofy personality followed him everywhere he went and was one of his hallmark traits was his love for sharing delicious foods or recipes he would discover.
He is survived by his loving girlfriend for the past decade, Jamie Hardesty of Indianapolis, IN as well as her extended family, one brother: Jay Newlin & wife Tami of West York, IL, daughters and sons-in-law: Stephanie & Woody McGehee of Waxahachie, TX, Beth & Steve Graham of McKinney, TX, son and daughter in law: Shane & April Newlin of Bardwell, TX, 11 grandchildren: Dalton (Ariel), Brady, Allison, Zach (Madison), Josh, Addison, Hannah, Jax, Jon Robert, Sam and Nate, two great-grandchildren: Miles & Elizabeth, nephews and nieces, Dustin (Renee) Newlin and, Tiffany (Josh) Higginbotham, Taci (Dakota Daugherty) Newlin, Stephen Newlin, Tara Newlin and Suron Newlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Jack Griggs, two brothers: Larry Newlin & Jim Newlin and his nephew, Levi Newlin.
Visitation will be held at Pulliam Funeral Home, Hutsonville, IL on Friday, October 14th, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be officiated by his son-in-law, Woody McGehee at Pulliam Funeral Home in Hutsonville on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Burial immediately following at Hutsonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family would prefer to travel back to Texas with persimmon pulp or bags of Bahrs noodles. Jon would agree wholeheartedly because they taste much better than carnations.
