Johnney Britt, 62, of Lumberton, NC, died Wednesday, August 17, 2021. He was born in Robeson County on May 4, 1959. He was a 1977 Lumberton High School graduate and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Marketing at UNC Pembroke in 1984.
Following graduation, Johnney joined Southern National Bank in Lumberton, NC as an Auditor and was later promoted to Vice President of Accounting and Auditing. During this time, he also earned his MBA and decided to make a career change and became a schoolteacher from 2000-2019. He wanted to help children live up to their full potential and choose to become an educator. He loved teaching and loved his students. Johnney was even voted as Teacher of the Year.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shelby Britt-Carter of Lumberton, NC; his father, Joe Britt of Lumberton, NC; his brother, Joey Britt of Salisbury, NC; his grandmother, Mary Arnette of Lumberton, NC; his aunt, Patricia Martin of Lumberton, NC; and, most recently, his second cousin, Matthew Sessoms of Lumberton.
He is survived by his cousins, Teresa Martin (Vicki Perry) of Irmo, SC and Sheila Sessoms of Lumberton, NC; his second cousins, Stephenie Sessoms (Sidney Hayes) of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Jessica Sessoms of Lumberton, NC; his newest born third cousin, Brayden Hayes; his nephew, Sean Britt (Blair Richey) of Cleveland, SC; his niece, Holli Britt-Layman (Britt Layman) of Durham, NC; his sister in-law, Karen Britt of Salisbury, NC; and, last but not least, his beloved cat that he named Shelby after his mother.
Due to COVID restrictions, the family has elected not to have a traditional indoor service but would like to have friends join us for a short outdoor gathering to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 11:00-12:30 at New Hollywood Cemetery, intersection of Hollywood Drive & Conoley Street in Lumberton, NC.
