John Wesley Wilson, 83, of Wilson, North Carolina passed away April 5, 2021. He was born November 1, 1937, in Mecklenberg County, Virginia, the son of James Chambers Wilson and Mary Magdalene Crute Wilson. His early years were spent in southern Virginia, and he considered South Hill as his home.
John served both in the United States Army and Navy during the mid 1950s. After his time in the military service he worked in law enforcement and industrial security, but he realized his most important work was serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He often spoke of himself as an apostle and carried out a traveling ministry of evangelism and healing through prayer.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother James (Jimmy) Wilson, his sister Volena Wilson Gear and a niece, Pattie Jean Gear. He is survived by nephews James A. Gear, Jr., Roland Gear, John Gear, and Isaac Gear; nieces Lena Artis and Deborah Hinnant; a host of great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Throughout his life John was a faithful Christian, church member and pastor, including the years he lived in Virginia and Pennsylvannia. In Wilson, he was a faithful member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. Services for John will be held at St. Timothy's at a date when family and friends can be together.
