John Alden Wettstone, 89, of Wallingford, formerly of North Haven, passed away February 14, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Roberta "Bobbie" (Balsinger) Wettstone. John was born on September 15, 1931, in Fremont, OH, the son of the late John and Donna (Ogle) Wettstone. He is survived by his loving children; Donna Klimowicz of Cheshire, CT, Cathleen (Gary) Shomsky of Grand Rapids, MI, David (Christina) Wettstone of Brooklin, ON, and Robin (Kurt) Mustian of St. Cloud, MN; along with 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Surviving him as well are two sisters-in-law, Susan Wettstone of Richmond, VA and Joan Woodman of Lilburn, GA. He was predeceased by his spouse, his parents, and his two brothers, Deane and Jimmy. John served with the U.S. Air Force in Germany during the Korean War period. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 1957 with a degree in civil engineering. Over a span of 32 years, he worked for New York Central, Penn Central, and finally with Conrail. He retired from the railroad in 1990. For many years he worked for the Town of North Haven maintaining the voting machines. John was a dedicated member of Faith United Methodist Church and the Corinthian Masonic Lodge both located in North Haven. Members of the church and the lodge appreciated delicious dinners that he prepared. After moving to Ashlar Village in Wallingford in 2009 he was an active volunteer and was well-known to many of the residents and staff. The joy of his life was his family; two of his favorite names were Dad and Gramps. He was ready to play at a moment's notice and always willing to travel thousands of miles to visit family. During his retirement years, he and Bobbie took many interesting trips. Favorite hobbies of his were gardening, baking banana bread, and making jam. Thank you to the staff of Hartford Hospital and Miller Memorial for the care they provided over his last month. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
