John Wesley Spann was born December 6, 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama to the union of the late John Wesley Spann and Lorine Parson-Spann. John professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Mount Moriah M. B. Church.
John united in holy matrimony with Ideen Thornton. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage; to this union three daughters and two sons were born.
Some of Brother Spann's favorite pastimes, before becoming vision impaired, were reading the Bible, and encouraging others to read the Bible. He also enjoyed singing and discussing politics. He had a great sense of humor and there was never a dull moment in his presence. Even though he lost his vision, he had a strong memory of God's word.
John W. Spann answered the ultimate call on November 13, 2022 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife; Ideen, daughters; Catherine (Clyde) Reddick, Geraldine (Greg) Sims, and Priscilla A. Spann ( Smyrna, TN), sons; Dr. Curtis Spann of Queen Creek, AZ and John Wesley Spann of Greenville, SC; grandchildren; DeMoreo J.
