JOHN P. WASHBURN, 80, lifetime resident of Bethel died early Thursday morning, April 30, 2020 at his home after a long illness with his family at his side.
He was born April 18, 1940 in Bethel; the son of Randall P. and Addie (Luce) Washburn. He graduated from Whitcomb High School in 1958. John was married to Beverly Mills in Gaysville in 1961. He had worked in road construction and owned laundromats and Mills Variety Store. John was one of the founders of the Bethel Business Association. He served as a Bethel Selectman for nine years including two terms as Chairman. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and Green Mountain Wood Carvers. He loved hunting with his sons and grandsons, gardening and wood carving.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Washburn of Bethel; daughter Elizabeth Cotoia of Clinton Corners, NY; sons Charles Washburn and wife Michele, Mark Washburn and wife Brenda, foster son Adam Washburn; foster daughter Shawn Davis; brother Cecil Washburn, all of Bethel; 6 grandchildren, Cassandra, Rocco, Jeff, Britany, Brody and Colby. He was predeceased by his parents a sister and two brothers.
At John's request, there will be no services or calling hours. A private burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Bethel.
