John William Urian, 84, of Thurmont, Maryland, died peacefully at his home on October 29, 2023. He was the loving husband of Rebecca Royer Urian. They celebrated 61 wedded years together on October 6, 2023. Born May 15, 1939, in Dover, Delaware, John was the son of the late John and Ethel Urian of Smyrna, Delaware.
Mr. Urian earned an associate degree in liberal arts at Wesley in Dover, DE in 1960, a Bachelor of Arts in history at High Point University in High Point, NC in 1962, and a Master of Legal Studies in library science at the University of Maryland in 1969.
John was professionalized as a Librarian in 1971 and as a computer scientist in 1974. As a data systems analyst and computer scientist, Mr. Urian retired from The National Security Agency, in Fort Meade, Maryland, after 38 years of service there. He worked 14 years further at Hood College as their technical librarian.
John had a sharp wit and a passion for photography. He loved taking pictures during their many vacation trips domestically and abroad. He developed a website displaying his art.
John will be remembered fondly by his son, Mark David Urian (Debbie) and son, Michael Carl. He is survived in addition by his brother David Urian (Dawn) of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and fondly remembered by Grandchildren; Kathryn Robbins (Ty), Megan Davis (Andrew), Ann Urian (Sebastian), Madeline Urian, Jack Urian, and Great Grandchildren, Kaylee, Ella, Aubrey, and Noah. He is preceded in death by daughter-in law, Chrissy.

A private graveside remembrance will be held at a later date.
John's care has been entrusted to Black's Funeral Home in Sabillasville, MD.
