John Underwood of Cartersville, GA was the son of the late John B. and Margaret "Peggy" Underwood of Kennesaw, GA. He was born June 22, 1955 in Lumberton, NC. He was taken Home to sleep in Heavenly Peace on January 13, 2021.
John enlisted in the US Air Force in 1975. John's first tour of duty took him to RAF Alconbury in England where he was destined to meet LaVonne Renee (Stehley) Underwood. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage, 2 wonderful children and 6 awesome grandchildren. John was to serve a total of 13 1/2 years in the Air Force where he was a crew chief on F-5's, A-10's and F-16's. He loved his jets...He loved his country.
He took great pride in working for Diversified Electronics of Marietta, GA for 21 years where he ran their shipping and receiving department until August of 2020 when he was hospitalized. There he left behind him many friends that were more like family.
John and LaVonne were led one Sunday several years ago to a little church on a hill called Peeples Valley Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA. John loved to video the Sunday services and special events. He joined in the teaching of Sunday school. His family there is a special group.
John entrusts God to mend the hearts of all the special people in his life: his wife LaVonne Underwood - Cartersville, GA; his children: Allen (Ragan) Underwood - Cartersville, GA; Ashley (Anthony) Hinkle - Cedar Key, FL. The "apples of his eye" are the grandchildren: Bria Hinkle, Dana Hinkle, Austin Hinkle - all of Cedar Key, FL; Kyndrick Underwood, Ryken Underwood, Dresden Underwood - all of Cartersville, GA. Brothers and Sister: Jeff (Anne) Underwood - Grants Pass, OR; Kathy Godwin - Dallas, GA; George (Denise) Underwood - Brandon, MS; Kevin Underwood - Kennesaw, GA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of great friends including many wonderful nurses and specialists that spent countless hours watching over John at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, GA. There is great love there.
John wanted, more than anything else this last few months, to be able to talk to those he loved and who loved him. It wasn't meant to be. John would tell you his final prayer for ALL would be: Put your Faith and Hope, not in man, but in our Heavenly Father through His Son only, where true peace and healing lie and I'll see you again. Amen
In lieu of flowers, John and Family would ask you to support the Gary Sinise Foundation.
