John E. Smith, 80, of Franklin Street, died at 3:15 p.m. November 18, 2019, at his home.
John was born October 7, 1939, in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Marion Francis and Goldia Mae Satterfield Smith. He married Mary A. Carnahan October 28, 1959.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastors Donnie Hacker and Roger Lee officiating. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to 6th Street General Baptist Church, through the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Ronnie Smith and Tim Smith, both of Brown County and daughters, Betty Johnson and Jeanetta (Greg) Prewitt, both of Columbus; brothers, Clarence (Janie) Smith of Petersburg and Charlie (Helga) Smith of Columbus, Georgia; grandchildren, Johnny Smith, Chelsea Smith, Joey Worton, Justin Smith, Kylene Watkins, Natalie Chandler, Natoshia Rollins, Amanda Shipley, Heather Michaels, Gregory Johnson Jr., and Trianna Sowards; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John E. Smith Jr., and brothers, Jim and Bill Smith and sisters, Eunice Hulfachor, Juanita Lloyd and Dorothy Vitito.
