John Jeffery Skubiak, age 93, passed away on February 28, 2021 in Knoxville. John was born in Canton, Ohio to Ukrainian immigrants, Kathrine and Enik Skubiak. He graduated from Timken High School and enlisted in the US Coast Guard shortly after. He graduated first at the Aviation Machinist Mate Training School in San Diego, and graduated from Cleveland State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. John had a very successful career that spread across 3 states, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. He received several US patents that were related to Non-Destructive Testing of steel tubing. He also produced a film that was used in a Federal Court to win a patent lawsuit. John was a self-taught golfer, and was captain and coach at Cleveland State University, after never playing during high school. He enjoyed playing with golfing buddies at Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville. He was also active with the home owners association at Concord Hills. He had many interests and hobbies. He had a love affair with a 1972 Porsche 911 which he overhauled and maintained. Driving this car was pure exhilaration for John. He was also a self-taught clock and watch repairman, and operated a business out of his home called North Shore C and W Repair. John had an interest in photography and took many photos that were duplicated by National Geographic Magazine.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Sharon; and sister, Olga. John is survived by his brother, Michael; and several other extended family members.
