John P. Sherick went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 20, 2020 at the age of 87. He was born in Washington Boro, Lancaster County, PA as the son of Chester D. Sherick and Grace Frey Sherick. He was raised on a farm and graduated from Columbia High School, Columbia, PA, in 1950. Afterwards, he attended Franklin and Marshall College where he graduated in 1954 with a B. S. degree in Chemistry.
John and his wife (the former Etna Smyth) were wed in 1957. Their marriage of 63 years produced four sons, William (wife Jennifer), James, Daniel, and Richard (wife Diane), and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Sherick and Andrew Sherick. John is survived by a brother, Donald Sherick (wife Marilyn), sister-in-law Verna Sherick, and was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Sell and a brother Frederick Sherick. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from college, John served two years in the Counter Intelligence Corps of the US Army. Most of his business life was spent as an employee of the DuPont Chemical Company, where he worked in various positions in research, sales, and marketing.
John was a member of Grace Bible Church, Dallas, where he was a beloved Sunday School teacher to 4-year-olds for the past 49 years. The pastor responsible for the oversight of the Sunday School recently commented, "There will never be another Mr. Sherick."
John was a devoted family man, and although he spent much time out of town on business trips, he always put God and family above business concerns when he was in Dallas. He truly was the greatest example and light to all those who knew him.
John was an avid golfer and he was a member of Brookhaven Country Club for 49 years. John greatly enjoyed watching sports on TV, and he seldom missed watching Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks games.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, John received an outpouring of love and support from family and friends near and far. John greatly appreciated the many calls, letters, and prayers on his behalf.
John's burial service will be at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211 on October 28, 2020 at 10:15 am. His memorial service will be held the same day at Grace Bible Church at 2:00 pm. The memorial service can be attended in person or seen live-streamed at the Grace Bible church website.
