John R. Brick, PhD, CFA was born in Chicago, IL on March 25, 1937. He passed away on March 14, 2022, at the age of 84 from Leukemia.
Jack received a baseball scholarship at the University of Wisconsin (UW) where he earned his undergraduate, MBA, and PhD degrees. He is a veteran of the US Army. Jack was a Professor of Finance at the Michigan State University Broad College of Business for eighteen years teaching financial markets, financial institutions, and bank management. Jack authored textbooks and peer-reviewed academic papers. Some of his work was in the Journal of Finance.
Jack was a pioneer in Asset-Liability Management and in 1987, he founded Brick & Associates, an East Lansing, MI based credit union consulting firm focusing on the unchartered waters of interest rate risk management following the S&L crisis of the 1980s. In 1989, the company became a second-generation business that now consults credit unions across the country. He trained regulators of financial institutions, trade associations, credit unions, and a European bank association. For four decades, Jack served as a Board member for Michigan State University FCU.
No road trip was too far for his eight grandsons' basketball, baseball, football, and hockey tournaments. Coaching their youth hockey brought Jack joy.
