John "Jack" Powers passed away on Sunday morning, August 1, 2021, at the age of 63 at BSMC in Springfield. He was born in Northampton, Massachusetts on August 31, 1957 to Mark E. and R. Jean Powers. Most of his life was spent in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from Frontier Regional High school in 1975. Following graduation, he enlisted in the military in 1976 where he was trained at McGuire AFB in New Jersey as a Fire Protection Specialist. He served overseas at Lakenheath AFB base in the United Kingdom, was honorably discharged, and returned to Massachusetts to explore new career opportunities. Jack went on to work for his father in the carpentry and building business. After leaving his father's business, he worked for other companies such as Bill Gass, Mowry & Schmidt, and Jimmy Williams, among others, in order to diversify his experience and learn new skills. Jack was considered by many as a Master Carpenter. He loved skiing, hunting and fishing in his younger days. For some who knew him, he might like to imbibe in a few beers from time to time. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Jack is predeceased by his father, Mark E. Powers and his brother, Terence E. Powers. He leaves behind his mother, R. Jean Powers. He also leaves brothers; Mark A., J. Matthew, Christopher H., and Thomas C., along with sisters Kathleen E., Sheila M., and Mary E. Powers and several nieces and nephews. Jack also leaves his two aunts; Mary Gilmore of Franklin and Helen Jenkins of Greenfield. There are no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam with Catholic Rites of Committal to be offered by Fr. Michael Twohig and Military honors being rendered by the United States Air Force.
