John R. Poggi, 66
John R. Poggi passed away May 14, 2022. He was born on May 2, 1956 in Somerville, New Jersey to Ernest and Eleanor Poggi. He has been a resident of Okeechobee for 22 years and of Florida for 50 years. John started his career in an environmental laboratory, and worked for both an environmental consulting firm and environmental/petroleum contractor. In the early 90s John was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to form his own business, REP Associates which later merged with Eco Advisors. Throughout his more than 40 year career in environmental consulting, John mentored and developed hundreds of professionals in the industry. John was passionate about the restoration and protection of the Everglades and Kissimmee River Basin, frequently writing articles in local newspapers. He even had a radio show called Radio Green Earth for some years, producing a weekly show on environmental issues in Florida. He loved to go fishing, all around Florida, sometimes on boats that he built himself. When not on the water, he biked, hiked, and cheered on the University of Alabama, where he earned a BA degree. Roll tide!
John was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his long-time partner, Karen Meyer and her daughter, Suzanne Mechler; his older brother, Ernest Poggi; and his younger sister, Lisa Bunch, and brother-in-law, Jerry Bunch.
