John D. Phillips, 71, long-time resident of Speedway IN, died at his Greensburg home on April 27, 2021.
He is survived by his two children, son Jason Phillips and wife Erin O'Kelly Phillips, and daughter Katie Phillips; their mother, Denise Phillips; his siblings Sherrie Burchell, Carol Rieker, Donald Bowles, Robert Phillips, and Sally Martin; his mother Shirley Phillips and uncle Ted Baglin. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack D. Phillips.
John was born on October 5, 1949 in Albany, NY to Jack Phillips and Helen (Christensen) Phillips. Following Helen's passing, his father was remarried to Shirley (Baglin) Phillips. John served 6 years in the Navy after leaving high school, and later graduated from GM Institute (Kettering University) with a degree in electrical engineering. John was also a member and past President of Beta Theta Pi Men's Fraternity. John was employed by Allison Transmission, GM, and Rolls Royce as an electrical engineer and was involved in the development of the Comanche helicopter.
John was a member of Speedway Methodist Church and was deeply committed to his support of the youth program and a long-time supporter of Mountain T.O.P. ministry located in Grundy County, TN.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 15, 2021 in the Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel, from 4:00-5:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of John to Mountain T.O.P. at www.mountain-top.org.
