John Paul Mayer, loving Husband, Father, Grandpa, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend passed away June 14th at Skagit Valley Hospital in the presence of many loved ones after a short battle with esophageal cancer. John was born in Everett, WA to Neil and Ann Mayer. Although John moved from the old family home, he remained in Granite Falls, WA for 51 years. From an early age John was in the dirt. He was always playing with dump trucks, backhoes, tractors and any other Tonka toy he could get his hands on. John attended Granite Falls schools. He played sports, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating, skiing and riding dirt bikes. When John turned 14, he started his first job at the "Mink Farm" where he established his great work ethic and never looked back. During high school he became a volunteer firefighter for District 17. His compassion, dedication and loyalty proved to be a lifelong value that was admired by all who knew him. In 1994, John decided to put to work what he loved and formed J & M Septic, which would be a staple in his life. He was diligent and determined to make sure his business was successful. John worked hard, he went the extra mile, gained the trust of his community, and was respected by his clients and associates. John's other loves were his wife Julie, their children and grandchildren. He and Julie have spent the last 27 years establishing their roots, raising their children, spending time with family east of the mountains, racing and running their business. They have built their life within a community that they love, cherish and hold dear. John was a family man and as a family they have been involved in many things, but one activity stands out, RACING! John spent 14 years as a spectator and pit guy for his friends at the track, and the last 13 as his kids crew chief and biggest fan. He formed special friendships within that community. John was "Blonde John" in the racing family, "Johnny Backhoe" to those in the dirt and "Johnny One Buck" to the hunting crew. He absolutely adored and appreciated his friends. He would have given the tank off his back if you needed it. His lifelong friends were not just friends they were FAMILY. Brothers that would do anything for one another. He loved and cherished you wholeheartedly. John was humble, kind, driven, fiercely loyal and will be deeply missed by many. John is survived by his wife Julie, children Ryley and Abigail Mayer of Granite Falls, Kelcey Mayer of Chelan, Grandchildren Saydee, Kingzlee and Abbie. His Mother Ann Mayer of Wenatchee, Sister Yvonne (Morris) Regan of Cashmere, Niece Ireland Regan of Cashmere, Mother-in-law Lynette McDowell of Marysville, Father-in-law Jerry (Sherry) McDowell of Snohomish, Brother-in-law Damon (Melissa) McDowell, Nephews Cameron, Chase and Casen of Crescent Bar, along with many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. John is preceded in death by his Father Neil Mayer and his Sister Leslie Mayer. During the past few months many of his treasured friends surrounded his family with such selfless expressions of love.
