John Otto Jr., also known as "Uncle Jack," died at the age of 83 on December 11 from COVID-19. He was born and raised by John and Mae Otto in New Castle, PA. Thanks to the G.I. Bill, he graduated from Youngstown State University in 1967. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force. He was an active and participating member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, IN for fifty years. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan but his passion for baseball was greater than all other sports. He was a legendary fixture sitting behind home plate at many Fort Wayne TinCaps games. He loved his furbabies and took a dog wherever he would go. As a real estate agent for many decades, he would always remind that "Every house needs a John." He was known for many of these quotes, rhymes, and other wisdoms. He had the ability to say or do inappropriate things with remarkable timing which annoyed some and amused others. Most of all, he treasured time with his family (immediate and extended). He is survived by his wife Rosemary, son John, daughter-in-Law Katie, and grandchildren Sophia and Olivia. Also survived are several nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States and Canada as well as relatives in Ireland. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother David. A private mass and burial will be held due to COVID-19. In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that people wear masks and practice safe habits during this time in his memory.
