John Pratt Morgan, age 73, passed away on Sunday evening, October 31, 2021. John was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ennys Morgan, Sr. and Geraldine "Gerrie" Mildred Pereira on July 5,b1948. John and his family lived on Pearl Harbor-Hickam Field where his father served in the Air Force. As a young child, John's family relocated several times due to military transfers, eventually settling in San Antonio where John spent his teenage years, graduating from Edison High School in the class of 1966.
After graduation, John followed the family tradition of serving his country by enlisting in theArmy. During his tenure he fought bravely and was severely wounded in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart. He completed his service as a Staff Sergeant with an Honorable Discharge in 1977, remaining a loyal and patriotic American for the remainder of his life. John lived in many places throughout his adult life pursuing various career opportunities, finally retiring in Harlingen, Texas.
John was an eternal Beach Boy at heart, with the perfect blend of Aloha spirit and Texas charm. He was blessed to have a community of close friends he called family. He remained active andbyouthful through all of his favorite activities which included bowling, pool, darts, golf, fishing, and famously holding court at Chuck's Icehouse. John never met a stranger and was known for his gregarious, fun-loving personality. He was often seen sporting one of his beloved Hawaiian shirts, signature gold necklace and bracelet, and a twinkle in his eye. John was always ready for the next great adventure.
Though John is gone from this earth, his friends and family know he is in a happier, pain-freeplace. His memory will live on as John, Johnny, JP, Boomer, Pops, Grandpa, G-Pa, Mr. Grandpa, Captain, and many other names affectionately given to a very loved man. He is most certainly dancing a little John Morgan jig, mumble-singing his favorite songs, giving a round of hearty high-fives, and raising a final toast to say "Love ya!" to all of us.
John is survived by his two children, Amy Morgan Porter and her husband John of Austin, TX, and Roy Vernon Morgan of Austin, TX, and his four grandchildren (Mary Morgan Baker, Penny Baker, III, Jackson Porter and Ashton Porter). He is also survived by his four siblings, Samuel Marshall Morgan, Lynn Raynette David and her husband Allen, Ennys "Jodie" Morgan, Jr. and his wife Marion, and Erla Ann "Pip" Quinn and her husband Mike. He is preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister, Ardie Aylesworth.
