Goshen - John A. Miller, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, after a brief illness and into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born in Jersey Shore, PA on February 5, 1930, and is predeceased by his father, Lewis Larue Miller and his mother, Marcella Hampton Jacoby (Miller), as well as his son-in-law, Steven Alberts. He moved to Corning, New York and attended Northside High School where he starred in football, baseball, and track, served as Vice President of the Class of 1948, and where he met his future wife, Marjorie Ann Obourn, who survives him.
During his career he worked for the Welles Supply Company, Elmira Heights, NY as a widely valued manufacturing consultant and sales manager before retiring in 1995. Whenever he and Marge moved, they were quick to join a local church where he served often as a deacon, trustee, Sunday School teacher, or choir member. Inquisitive by nature, John was an avid outdoorsman loving to sail, fish, hunt, camp, and travel. Once, during his high school years, he took up flying as a hobby at Costas Airport in Painted Post, NY. He chose to see the good in people telling their stories often, was known for his quiet wisdom, patience, grace and faith. Besides being a quintessential handyman John also had a knack for finding the best soup, sandwiches, hot dogs, or cuts of beef from local businesses. He just knew where to go!
Besides his wife, he is also survived by his five children and their spouses: Kurt Miller and his spouse Anecia; Sue Alberts (spouse Steve Alberts, deceased); Michael Miller and his spouse Julie; Peter Miller and his spouse Lori; and Marianne Davis (Miller) and her spouse Jeff. His twelve surviving grandchildren are Mindi Jentes, Juli Eckel, and Kirsti Elliott and their spouses and children; Carrie Parker and Amy Brown and their children; Emma Miller, Rebecca Miller, Clara Miller; Tiffany Guy, Brandon Miller and their spouses and children; Jessica LaShure and Kathryn Gann and her spouse. He also is survived by 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
A small family memorial is planned for a later date yet undetermined.
