John "Jack" Merrick passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021. He was a long-time resident of Hanover MA before retiring to St. Simons Island, GA in 1995. Jack was born to John L. Merrick Sr. and Margaret Magurn Merrick on January 19, 1928, and raised in Concord, MA. He attended Concord public schools, then went to New Hampton School before serving in the Navy during WW II, after which he attended Bates College. He had a 30 year career with New England Telephone Company. Jack was a loving husband to Mary Joan (Green) Merrick for 68 years. He is survived by Mary Joan, their three children: Bob Merrick, of Plymouth MA, Jan Gaynor and her husband Bruce of Norcross GA, and Meg Lyons and her husband Jeff of Portland ME, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Jack was an advocate for youth baseball leagues in Hanover and instrumental in bringing youth football to town in the early days of the Hanover Youth Athletic Association. He was also President of the Hanover High School Athletic Boosters. Along with enjoying his children's and grandchildren's sports activities he was an avid animal lover.
