John Joseph McNamara, 82 of Lady Lake, FL passed away peacefully on May 23, 2020 at The Villages Hospice House, The Villages, FL.
John was born in Superior, Wisconsin on January 9, 1938 to the late John B. and Elizabeth (Betty) McNamara.
He graduated from Superior Cathedral High School in 1955 and went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire. He received his Masters at Cal State Fullerton while serving with the United States Marine Corps.
He served 3 tours in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star with a V and a Purple Heart. He retired from the USMC as a Lieutenant Colonel with over 30 years service. He loved being a Marine and was very proud of his service to his country. He was a true patriot.
He is survived by his wife Helen (Costello) McNamara of Lady Lake, FL; a son Craig P. McNamara and wife Carol (Eggbert); a daughter Kelly (McNamara) Holliday and son-in-law Keith and granddaughter Kayla Holliday, all reside in California. He is also survived by a brother Dan C. McNamara and sister-in-law Helen (Haynes) McNamara of Wausau, WI and a sister Margie (McNamara) Doyle of St. Paul Minnesota. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Dr. Thomas Doyle of Eau Claire, WI.
He was respected and loved by the many friends that he made over his lifetime.
He will be sorely missed, but he will be forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
