Elder John Curtis McKinstry Sr. a husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a Holy Ghost fearing man was called from labor to reward on Friday, May 27, at Providence Hospital. Born January 17, 1957, to the late Joe Lewis O'Neal and Loretta Sampson.
He was educated in the Fairfield County School District and graduate of Winnsboro High School. He joined the United House of Prayer for All People at an early age. He received his letter to preach in the mid-seventies. He attended the McCollough Theological Seminary in 1986. In 1973 Elder McKinstry received the Holy Ghost. He was a member of the McCollough Jr. Band under the leadership of the late Bro. J.C. Young. He was the assistant pastor of Winnsboro, SC for 23 years before pastoring in the United House of Prayer Tillman SC for four years and Walterboro for three years. He returned to Winnsboro and later resumed his role as assistant pastor until his passing, as with his own family he showed love to his church family. There was nothing he wasn't willing to do in the House of Prayer.
He was employed with Consolidated Systems Inc. in which he retired in 2021. Elder McKinstry was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. The highlight of his life was attending a game with his pastor Elder J. Taylor and their sons who surprised him with the tickets. He had a great love for his works in the House of Prayer. You could always find him boosting the bands and choirs no matter where they would go.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Margaret McKinstry, daughter Latasha (Robert) Crawford, Raleigh North Carolina, sons, John (Tanga) McKinstry Jr. Huntersville, North Carolina, Daniel Kincade of WInnsboro, SC; granddaughters Destiny McKinstry of Columbia, SC; Imani Nesbit, Raleigh, North Carolina; grandson, James Nesbit Jr. Raleigh, North Carolina, sisters, Angie (Arthur) Bell, Winnsboro, SC, Harriett (John) Bell, Rock Hill, SC, Ella Mae Sampson, Linda (David) Jeter Chester, SC, Rebecca (Calvin) Dickerson, Charlotte, North Carolina; a godson Cephas Sunkins, special sons Elder Jhaun Taylor Sr. and Elder Lee Weddington and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
