John Bernard (J.B.) Lucas of Seffner, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 14, 2022, in Tampa, FL of a stroke. He was 66 years young.
John is preceded in death by his father, John B. Lucas, Jr. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Cindy; daughter, Amanda (Joshua) Raymond; grandson, Wyatt Raymond; mother, Mary Lucas; sister, Cindy Minor; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Often described as "larger than life," his sudden absence leaves a tremendous hole in the hearts of all who loved him.
Born January 22, 1956, in Tampa, John was a lifelong resident of Hillsborough County and a graduate of Hillsborough High School, Hillsborough Community College, and the University of South Florida. (Go Bulls!) He retired after 43 years with Tampa Electric Company (TECO) and was a 33-year member of IBEW Local 108.
John always had a warm smile, a mischievous glint in his eyes, and a playful sense of humor. He enjoyed days spent gardening with his wife, golfing with friends, laughing with his daughter, teaching his son-in-law to grill, and entertaining his beloved grandson with tall tales of pirates, zombies, and the hunt for Bigfoot. Well known for his wonderful cooking, he often surprised family, friends, and neighbors with pans of chicken wings, shredded pork butts, and pots of homemade soup or beans "just because." He also freely shared plants from his garden, gifting plumeria, hibiscus, staghorn ferns, and orchids to anyone who admired them.
While he immensely enjoyed traveling with family and friends, John always looked forward to returning to his peaceful backyard in Seffner, or as he liked to call it, "The Center of the Universe." His spirit lives on in the breeze through the oak trees above his favorite bench.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 4-7 PM at Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club. Memorial donations may be made to Moffitt Cancer Center, Pepin Heart Institute of AdventHealth Tampa, and Tampa General Hospital.
