John Leslie Thatcher Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather and friend entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior at the age of 78 on March 7, 2022, with his family by his side. A resident of Indianapolis he was born on March 24, 1943 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late John J. Thatcher and Lillian "Peg" (Uhrick) Thatcher.
John leaves behind to treasure his memory, his adoring wife of 41 years, Linda G. (Daschbach) Thatcher, his sisters Sue, Adelma and Peggy, his brothers Donald and Larry; his children John Jr. (Becky), James, Joel and Jason and grandchildren Joshua, Daniel and Bethany. Preceding him in death were his sister, Barbara, his two brothers Michael and Gary.
John attended Arcola School. He went on to proudly served his country for 6 years as a Sergent in the United States Marines.
He was self employed as a contractor building and remodeling homes. He also had a carpet store that allowed him to do customized patterns using multi colors and shapes of carpeting and tile. John was meticulous about his work demanding the same from his employees which brought accolades from many of his clientele.
John was an avid golfer, a keen pool player, a fun filled camper and an enthusiastic beer drinker.
John regularly attended Garfield Park United Church of Christ until his health made it no longer tolerable for him to travel. He was a kind and caring person. He never hesitated to help his family, friends or strangers that were downtrodden and in need of help.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at a date to be announced.
He will be laid to rest in Louisville Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 101 St. John Road, Michigan City, Indiana 46360.
Arrangements have been entrusted to G.H Herrmann Madison Funeral Home, 141 Madison Ave. Indianapolis, Indiana.
