Born April 8, 1940 to John and Helen Knudsen in Sayre, John grew up in Wellsboro. He treasured the memories of his childhood in the big house at 1 Charles Street and all the friends with whom he amazingly kept it touch through the years. He graduated from Gettysburg College with a degree in economics. He had a good head for business which served him well throughout his life.John had a tremendous diversity of interests: the outdoors, hunting and fishing in the Northwest with his lifelong friend, Jon Harding, classical music, oenology and viticulture, travel, golf, duplicate bridge. A lover of knowledge, he was truly a Renaissance man - interesting and interested in all things, knowledgeable in most any subject you could come up with. Those in Watonga remember him as the "cheeseman" who ran the Watonga Cheese Factory as well as contributing citizen.Later, after selling the factory, he studied viticulture and planted his own vineyard north of Watonga, one of the first ones in Oklahoma. John dealt with several disabling health issues later in life but never lost his cheerfulness, his great mental and emotional strength and his determination to make the best of things. He showed tremendous fortitude and resolve, never losing his cheerful personality throughout his health challenges.John was a true gentleman who lived a life of Integrity, character and humility. Predeceased by parents John and Helen Knudsen, John is survived by his wife, Betsy. He also is survived by brothers, Bill (Mary) of Florida and George (Monica) of Oklahoma, sisters, Krista Whipple of Florida and Martha (Bob) of California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: he loved the role of uncle to all.A very special thank you to Karen Owens who was always there to care for him with such love.
