John Kedik, a gentle yet fun-loving soul with a knack for teasing and a caring heart, left us on December 8, 2024, at 94 years old. He was born March 27, 1930, in Mishawaka, Indiana, the son of Frank and Anna (Waja) Kedik, and has lived in Michiana all his life.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving the Korean Service Ribbon, one Bronze Service Star, and other ribbons and medals. He retired from Bendix, working in the Foundry in the Aerospace division.
John was married on December 18, 1965 in South Bend to Barbara Ann Turner. She survives with two daughters, Sharon (Dave) Witkowski of Elmira, MI and Melinda (William) Stockwell of Dowagiac as well as granddaughters, Sophia Stockwell, and Madeline Stockwell.
Preceding John in death are his parents and all of his siblings, Mary DeMeyer, Margaret Asper, Anne Howland, Frank Kedik, Mike Kedik, Helen Wajakowski, Dorothy Stanley, George Kedik , and twin sisters, Olga and Irene who passed early in their life.
Music was such a big part of John's life. At the age of 14, he was able to earn a guitar kit by cutting and saving up labels or magazine clippings. He taught himself to play guitar and in his younger years frequently played with his best friend, George Palsce. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and joining other musicians for jam-type sessions with his dear friend, Max Davis.
John was 35 years old when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, this is when his whole life changed for the better. He found comfort in his faith. He is a member of Calvary Bible Church of Dowagiac, MI.
John with his wife, Barbara, cherished his time at their cabin in Elmira, Michigan, lovingly known to the family as 'God's country.' The cabin became a labor of love, transformed over the years with the help of friends and family.
