Mr. Johnson passed away on February 3, 2025, in Tyler, Texas.
John Ray Johnson was born in West Virginia, the son of Roy Johnson and Pauline Fields Johnson. From being a Scoutmaster to Church Song Leader, to avid hunter and outdoorsman, Johnny loved people. He touched so many lives in scouting, his church family, his barbershop chorus singing and the list keeps going. Johnny had a great love for guns, skeet shooting, hunting, and doing his own gun stock carving and checkering. He worked many years for GM until he retired from Bozarth Chevrolet in Grand Junction Colorado. There were many wonderful days of fly fishing, hiking with his wife, and enjoying the great outdoors with his family in Colorado and Texas, as well as throughout his life. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he mentored and inspired so many. Johnny never met a soul he didn't like and could talk to anyone on any subject.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Johnson; his sister, Paula Johnson Stauffer; his brother, Barry Johnson; and his son, Roy Adrian Johnson.
He is survived by his children, Jan Johnson and James Johnson; his daughter-in-law, Lea Cotton Johnson and Michael Moore; his grandchildren, Logan Johnson, Douglas Johnson, Alyssia Johnson, and AJ Johnson; his brother-in-law, Karl Stauffer; and his sister-in-law, Nell Johnson. Considering both his wife's family and his own, there are 42 nieces and nephews, 98 grandnieces and grandnephews, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home family.
