John B. Johanningsmeier, 74, of Seymour, Indiana passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Columbus Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on December 20,1948 in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of the late John B. and Gladys E. (Godare) Johanningsmeier. John was a member of Genesis Church of Seymour in Indiana. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Vincennes and Indiana State University in Terre Haute, where he received a Bachelor's degree. John was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the Air Force as an aircraft radio mechanic. On May 25, 1974 he married the love of his life Linda (Wood) Johanningsmeier. In this happy union they were blessed with four sons and two daughters. The majority of his fifty year accounting career was spent serving the old Freudenberg, now Mid America Science Park in Scottsburg, and Fiberteq in Danville, Illinois. Just like in these manufacturing facilities, John was often the quiet glue that held life together. His family counted on him for all kinds of advice, a listening ear, and a euchre partner. John managed the finances in the three churches he attended as an adult, in addition to mowing grass, chopping wood, and helping members with taxes. He was a spiritual father to many. John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; son, Joseph; and brother-in-law, Hank Lopez. Survivors include his wife of almost fifty years, Linda Johanningsmeier; five siblings, Jerri Johanningsmeier, Jim (Debbie) Johanningsmeier, Jill Lopez of Vincennes, Jane (Dale) Brown, and Jo Tarrh; five children, Chris (Jennifer) Johanningsmeier, Jeff (Brandy) Johanningsmeier, Jael (Regie) Turner, Jacob (Hannah) Johanningsmeier, and Sarah (Johanningsmeier) Slade; sixteen grandchildren, JaSaun, Countess, Karah, Abigail, Isaac, CaSandra, Emma, Allie, Ashton, TJ, Adrienne, Ava, Maximus, Alysse, Mia, and Levi; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Service 11:00 am Monday, October 30, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, October 29, 2023 and prior to services Monday at 10:00 am. Internment will follow services at Lexington Cemetery.
