Jack Guthrie of Pendleton, South Carolina, passed away May 28, 2022, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel, and his brother Stewart. Jack is survived by Dougalyn, his wife of 64 years; their three children: Jay, Kevin and Leigh; and two grandchildren: Zachary and Alexis.
Jack was known for having a kind heart and generous soul. He was devoted to his family and to helping those around him. He actively participated in the Methodist Church throughout his adult life. He also participated in civic organizations and after his retirement, played music in nursing homes.
Following a 30 year career in banking, Jack retired as Senior Vice President of Union Bank and Trust (now Atlantic Trust) in Bowling Green, Virginia. Most who knew him well heard him talk of music, his true passion. He played the saxophone, clarinet and keyboard, performing in bands in his 20s and 30s.
Although he has lived in a number of places, West Point, Virginia, will forever be his home. A memorial service will be held on June 8, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Pendleton United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
