John William Hutchinson, 97, of DeLand, Florida, passed peacefully in his sleep on June 17, 2020 from COVID-19. He had deep beliefs complemented by a light heart and was much loved by all who knew him. Born in Detroit, MI, John moved to Hollywood, FL in 1946, and then to Astor, FL in 1988. He was a born-again Christian and a World War II Marine Corps veteran. He was a carpenter and glazier, an avid bass and snook fisherman, a chess player, a golfer, a Sunday School teacher, and Director of the Astor-Astor Park Cemetery. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Martha Susan Hutchinson. Survivors include his sister, Edna May Merritt; his son, John Wesley Hutchinson (wife, Christine Artley Hutchinson); grandchildren Elizabeth Brooke Hutchinson (husband, Benjamin Rock) and John Benjamin Hutchinson (partner, Sarah Dubrow), 2 great-grandchildren (John Alden Rock and Haylin Savannah Rock), and 7 nieces and nephews (Debbie Oakes, Eileen Yost, Heather Mosely, Jamie Brown, Jo Ann Brady, John Brady, and Karen Hatten). Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, June 5, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Astor. Interment of his ashes will follow at the Astor-Astor Park Cemetery.
