Help us celebrate John! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember John.
John "Jack" Albert Hevly was born June 11, 1932 and passed peacefully on Oct. 11, 2024 at the age of 92. He grew up on Capitol Hill and graduated from Seattle Prep High School in 1950 and from Seattle University in 1954.
He was the beloved husband of Connie Hevly for 62 years, who preceded him in death in 2020. They raised 5 children in the Wedgwood and Shoreline neighborhoods in Seattle and Camano Island.
Jack worked for Korry Manufacturing for more than 40 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement Jack and Connie moved from Shoreline to their summer home on Camano Island, which he built starting in the early 60's. He taught himself how to build this 4-bedroom cabin, "The House That Jack Built", working on weekends, hauling materials on top of his station wagon with the family in the car.
Jack and Connie spent winters at their condo in Leucadia, CA for 20 years. They enjoyed traveling to many different countries. He carried a list of trips in his wallet and enjoyed talking about these adventures. He and Connie encouraged their family to travel abroad.
Jack lived independently until his passing in his Utsalady Beach home.
He is survived by his children Janet (Brannon) Shapley Ames, Marianne Norden, Mike (Becky), Brian (Tiffany) and Karin Sather; grandchildren Jake and Erik Shapley, Kelsey (Grace) and Lindsey Norden, Clayton Hevly, Mackenzie Hevly, and Ryan and Hannah Sather; and great grandchild Dahlia Norden.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will take place at the Utsalady Ladies Aide Building on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
The family would like to thank his many physicians and the medical team at Providence Hospital for their compassionate care
