JOHN HANSHEWSeptember 8, 1939 February 22, 2023John was born to Arthur & Mary Hanshew on September 8, 1939, in Arkansas. He was the 3rd of 6 children when the family moved to California. They made a home in the Modesto area. John re-located to the Bakersfield area in the mid 1960's and made it his home for the rest of his life until his family grew to include 6 children and his loving wife Shirley Ann Hanshew. Together for more than 50 years they raised a family in the Shafter area before moving to Bakersfield in the last year. John was an electrician by trade and retired from SA Camp Pump Company. He was a kind and gentle man who loved the Lord and never met a stranger. He cherished his time with family and friends and was very proud of his life with his wife Shirley. For us kids, he led by example and taught us to always do what was right, to work hard for what you wanted and to be a good person to others. He loved being with family and was very proud of his many grand and great-grand kids who all loved Papa John. He will be very missed by all of us. John is survived by his wife Shirley, sister Grace and brothers Fred and Joe. His 6 children, Rick, Phil, Kathy, Tim, Brian, and Sandy, along with numerous grandkids and great-grandkids. While we and the world has lost a truly great man, heaven has gained an angel who will be looking down and protecting us until we are together again. John passed away February 22, 2023 in Bakersfield. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church of the Valley, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 beginning at 11:00am.
