John Charles Gardiner, Jr., passed away from lung cancer in Scottsdale, AZ, at age 69, with his sons and sisters by his side. Johnny was born in Carmel Valley to Barbara and John Gardiner. He spent much of his life living on the Monterey Peninsula and the surrounding areas before retiring north to Tehama, CA, where he lived on the shores of the Sacramento River.Johnny was known as a Master carpenter who built and remodeled dozens of homes across the Peninsula. Some of the local landmarks include Casanova in Carmel, The Corkscrew Café and Moto Talbott Motorcycle Museum, in Carmel Valley, as well as the Chapel at Georis Winery in Cachagua. A special project, most dear to his heart, was the rebuilding of the clubhouse at his family's home, John Gardiner's Tennis Ranch, after the original building was destroyed by fire in 1989.Johnny loved sports, and growing up, he excelled as an athlete. He continued to live out his passion as a little league coach for 15+ years. He was old school; he'd rather listen to a Giants game on an AM/FM radio than watch it on TV. His best days were spent on the river or in front of a BBQ, but later in life, he cherished the time he was able to spend with his sons and grandchildren.Johnny was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Gardiner, his father, John Gardiner and older brother Tom Gardiner. Johnny is survived by his four sons: Benny, Bryon, Beau and Blair; his two sisters: Tricia McKnight and Tenise Kyger; and eight Grandchildren: Callan, Sawyer, Eva, Oliver, Logan, Elodie, Tatum and Charli.John's family extends their sincere thanks to the Hospice of the Valley for their support.A memorial will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 11:00 AM at The Running Iron - 24 E Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel Valley.
