John Kekoa "Koa" Shigemichi Date, of Honolulu, Hawai'i, passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2022 at the age of 30.
Kekoa was born on August 30, 1991 to John Date (deceased) and Melissa-Ann Kolo in Honolulu, Hawai'i. He is survived by his wife, Kelsey Date, their four beautiful children, Norah Keolani (8), Layla Hi'iaka (8), Max Kekoa K?k?'ilimoku (7) and Oliver Ka Wai'oli (2), his mother, his younger brother, William, his sisters, Ku'ulei, Noelani, Jeni, Lily and his nieces and nephews.
Koa graduated from Kaimuk? High School and received a certificate of professional development from the Hawai'i's Cook Apprentice Program from Kapi'olani Community College. At the age of 13, he began his culinary career as a catering event supervisor in Kailua, Kona and worked his way up to being a Chef on the island of O'ahu. His experience, hard work and delicious food is well known all over the world, especially here in Hawai'i.
Kekoa was a devoted husband/father/son/brother. He was a dedicated worker, a loyal friend, and a local boy through and through. The ocean was his second home; he loved body surfing, fishing, and taking his children, nieces, and nephews to jump off "The Wall." Koa enjoyed working on his newly restored 1992 Chevy S10 as well as on his prized mopeds.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Koa's favorite place, during his favorite time of the day. Please join us for "Dawn Patrol" at sunrise, 5:48 am, on June 10, 2022 at Sandy Beach. Bring your beach chairs and a tall can to celebrate our beloved Kekoa. '
