After a long and fruitful life John J. Clancy, Jr., 92, a resident of Berwal Road, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2021 at his home. John was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 11, 1928 the son of the late John J. Clancy, Sr. and Mary Meegan. He attended Columbia, John's Hopkins and St John's Universities earning multiple degrees including a PhD in Intellectual History. John was a well known and respected professor of history at Molloy College in Rockville Center, NY for 30 years. While living on Long Island he was a member of the town planning board, the parish council, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the American-Irish Congress, and the Columbia Club. Upon moving to Arlington, VT in 1993 John became active in the community including the Arlington Library, the Food Shelf , the Parish council and was a member of the Romeo's. He was an avid gardener, a serious football fan and world traveler . John is survived by his wife Patricia (Oxley) Clancy of Arlington, sons John J Clancy III and Timothy Clancy (Elise) both of Hinesburg, VT, daughters Jennifer Williamson (Wilfred) of Stafford, VA.and Suzanne Leahey of Island Park, NY, sisters Anne Barton of Spring Lake, NJ and Theresa Rumpel of Ocala, FL, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela Forster who passed away November 23, 2003. A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Friday July 30, 2021 at 10am at Christ Our Savior Parish in Manchester. Interment will follow in Dellwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday July 29, 2021 from 4-7pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel Historic Route 7A Arlington, VT.
