John Dick Cimino passed away unexpectedly on Sunday April 4, 2021 at his home in Lexington, KY after a 15-month fight with AML Leukemia. John was born May 24, 1959, in Madison, WI the son of Carlo and Barbara (Dick) Cimino. John grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison East High School in 1977. He continued his education at Madison Area Technical College, graduating with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering. After working a few years at Ohio Medical in Madison, John moved to Phoenix, AZ and lived there for over 30 years. In 2019, he relocated to Lexington, KY to work for the University Of Kentucky Medical Center. John is survived by his brother James Cimino of Folsom, CA and his sister Christine (Scott Showers) Cimino of Madison; Aunt Jo and cousins in Alabama and Wisconsin; and former wife Shirley Knuteson in Arizona. He will be remembered by his good friends Bart Spivey in Arizona, Jeff Cochran in Kentucky and Keith Ader in Ohio, as well as many other friends in Phoenix and new friends in Lexington, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to thank Doctor Maxwell Krem as well as all of the doctors, nurses, social workers and staff members at the Markey Cancer Center at the University Of Kentucky Lexington Health Care. To all of John's friends and coworkers in Lexington that helped him since he moved there, we thank you and we appreciate your kindness looking in on him, bringing food, friendship and support. A gathering will be held at TownPlace Suites by Marriott, 980 Midnight Pass, Lexington, KY from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
