John Charles Brady, 84, of Merkel, died peacefully at his home on October 2, 2022. John was born October 23, 1937 in Waterloo, Iowa to O.E. and Agnes Brady.
After graduation from high school, John enlisted into the US Air Force. He was stationed at Dyess AFB where he met and married the love of his life, Jocille Thompson. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. John and Jocille raised their 4 children in Merkel, Texas, where he was the local mailman until his retirement after 31 years of service. After retirement, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a prison minister. John was very active in all of the children's activates, and because of his dedication he was recognized when he received the Boy Scout's Order of the Arrow medal and Merkel High School Booster of the year award. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Jocille, and their 4 children: Mike (Vicki) Brady of Abilene, Christi (Ron) Houghton of Merkel, Tim (Cindy) Brady of Belton, and Donny (Donna) Brady of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 8 grandchildren: Andrew, Sandy, Erica, Rebecca, Brittany, Parker, Kaci, and Abigail; 7 great-grandchildren: Emma, Beau, Frank, John, Birdie, Anna, Jocie, plus another great-grandchild to be born in December.
Visitation will be held Wednesday October 5, 2022 at Our Mother of Mercy in Merkel, Texas from 5:30 - 7:00PM with Rosary to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, October 6, 2022 at Our Mother of Mercy, burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
