John Richard Camp Slaughter, 78 of Dalhart, left his earthen vessel and went to be at Jesus' feet on Thursday, January 27, 2022. The family will share special memories during a memorial service to be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home.
Richard is survived by his wife: Amelia Ann, one daughter: April Ann Mackenzie and husband John; one son: John Christopher Slaughter and wife Sandy.
"Dandad" or "Papa Richard" was loved by his grandchildren: Preston, Hope, and April Dawn as well as his great grandchildren: Justin, Liberty, Giana, Emberleigh, and Avacyn.
He is also survived by his siblings: D'Ann Moutos and husband, Jimmy and their children: Catherine and John David; Steve Slaughter and wife, Dianne and their children: Brent, Bradley and Brayden; David Slaughter and wife, Jackie and their children: Dax and Megan; Sallie Wheeler and her daughter: Whitney; and Nancy Slaughter.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother: Jewel Camp Young; his father: John Edward Slaughter; and his mother Beverly Weekes Slaughter.
Richard successfully overcame a weak physical beginning with a combination of faith, perseverance, and a forward-looking attitude toward living life. He married a supportive wife, raised two remarkable children, and demonstrated an unprecedented work ethic that was motivated by his devotion to his family, employers, as well as his community...not sure any of us could ask for much more.
