John Dallas "Dack" Brinkley Jr., of Valdese, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
He was born October 25, 1928 in Morganton, the son of the late John Dallas Brinkley Sr. and Ruth Holloway Brinkley.
He attended The Darlington School in Rome Georgia and graduated from Staunton Military Academy in
Staunton Virginia. He graduated from Duke University with a bachelors degree and returned to Valdese to work in his family's lumber and building supply business. Dack was co-owner of Brinkley Lumber Company, Pilgrim Full Fashion Hosiery Mills, DBA Best Binders Markets and College Timber Products. Mr. Brinkley was a past board members of the Valdese General Hospital for seventeen years, BB&T, Valdese Manufacturing, Francis Louise Hosiery Mills, Northwestern Bank, Burke County Broadcasting, Colonial Theaters Inc, and Mimosa Lanes. He was a past president of the Valdese Rotary Club and the Beach Mountain Club. Dack was a lifelong collector of Native American artifacts and served on the board of the Cherokee Historical Association as well as a number of other boards. He was an avid supporter of his Alma Mater and became an Iron Duke, traveling with Coach K and the Duke basketball team to numerous events.
Dack was a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church where he served on several committees and was a past Deacon.
He is survived by his wife of over 72 years, Eleanor Brinkley; son, John Dallas Brinkley III; son, Douglas Brinkley; and grandson Marshall Brinkley with one great grandson.
Dack was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Marshall Brinkley and William Brinkley.
A memorial service will be held Thursday February 24 at 11:00 AM at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. John L. Frye, Jr., officiating.
